Sagaing is situated 21km southwest of Mandalay on the west bank of the Ayeyarwaddy River. It was the capital of Shan kingdom in 14 the century after the fall of Bagan dynasty. Nowadays, it is a capital of Sagaing division. Sagaing hill covers many hundreds of pagodas and monasteries known as a peaceful place for Buddhist studies and meditation. The people of Myanmar come from all over the country to visit Sagaing for religious retreat. The most famous places in Sagaing hill are the Padamyazedi pagoda, the U min Thonze Caves Pagoda with many Buddha images, Tilawkaguru cave temple with mural paintings, the Soon Oo Pon Nya Shin Pagoda with splendid view of Sagaing hill and Ayeyarwadday River.

The Ywa Htaung village is famous for its silver smiths and the pottery village (The Ohbo village) is also interesting to visit.
