Cuisine

The typical Burmese cuisine always includes rice with a type of curry from goat, chicken, or fish with the addition of « Ngapi » or fish paste. You can add to that a variety of condiments like « Balachaung », a dish of dried shrimp with garlic and chillies, or vegetables in diverse forms. Salads including tea leaves salad with sesame seeds and peanuts. The national dish eaten mainly for breakfast would be the “Mohinga” a rice vermicelli soup with fish in ginger and lemongrass.

Drinks

Like in most foreign countries, do not use the tap water as it is unsafe for drinking. But you can use it for washing or even teeth brushing. Most hotels do provide you with one or 2 bottles of mineral water in the rooms, free of charge.

In restaurants, you can try the local fruit juices, sodas and beers or even the local speciality, green tea. Foreign wines tend to be expensive. Myanmar has joined the list of wine producing countries with very good red and white wines coming from 2 local producers from Inle Lake who welcome you for wine tasting.
